Computer-assisted Language Learning (CALL) has become a trend for language learners studying in schools and at home. CALL enables English language learners to study in flexible time and places, using technology in a digital environment. English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learners, including ESP learners in Taiwan, need to study particular English areas. CALL can assist in improving the learning experience. However, when ESP learners learn, CALL effectiveness can become a problem. In Taiwan, in particular, many ESP instructors are not familiar with CALL programs and the benefits of using such technology.
The topic area of this study was to explore the effectiveness of CALL approaches for different types of ESP programs, with applications in Taiwan, in order to understand the effectiveness of CALL programs. In addition, other factors, such as learners’ characteristics, socio-cultural and national individuality of primary language, instructor characteristics, instructional design uniqueness and environment for learning were explored.

Paper: ESP With and Without CALL for Taiwanese College Students

Chia-Hui was born in a middle class family, and the entire sibling and parents get along very well with each other. Chia-Hui’s parents not only focus on their children how to behave well but also pay attention to their children how to speak properly in public then can be easily make friends and get along well with other people. In the daily life, Chia-Hui’s parents always instill and build the independent thinking from my mind since I was a child. So, it is basic for me to develop my personal characteristic when I grow up. I am the person with honest, careful and responsible to do everything. In addition, I do really like to communicate with people, enjoy the teamwork activities, make friends with people, and eager to face the challenge and pressure. I also like to work out to keep my figure in a health condition. Job Experience and Skills I do improve a lot from my job experiences. Additionally, I learn how to communicate with people from my previous job, and also understand more clear about the direction of my future goal. I do really appreciate my previous manager and principal who provide me learning opportunities in the company and the school. Due to other colleagues’ take care and help, and I learn many previous experiences from them. Therefore, I do believe no matter what kind of my job position will be, I can make an effort to learn, especially I have a belief that teamwork cooperation can definitely solve out the problem and progress it well to achieve the task. The most important part is to have enthusiastic, responsible, and hard working heart to work on the job no matter what kind of the job it will be.
Perspective and Attitude on Job During my study years in US, I learned a lot from the aspects of innovative and research areas, and I also improved my ability and thinking areas. I always play a cooperative role in the school teamwork activities or with all of my friends when I get along with them. I am eager to involve my job areas, and I always have the duty and responsibility to carry out all of my job tasks. It influences me a lot from the people that I used to cooperate with in the group activities or from my part time or full time job experiences. The first job let me understand due to the globalization in the world, English plays an important role to enhance the skills of communication and improve the effectiveness of the company. I improve a lot since I work for the schools in America; I love America freedom of education, diversity, and I enjoy facing challenge to deal with the brand new experiences that I have never have before. In addition, my opinion for the America education is creativity style. Hence, if I have this opportunity to enter your University to teach then I will definitely to work hard in my job area. My hope is that I can have this opportunity to contribute my knowledge in the teacher position. Future Planning and My Expectation From my future planning, I am eager to accept more challenges, and obtain more various experiences. If I could not put into practice then I just only learn from the textbook and I cannot carry out in the daily life. Then I cannot really understand what the market really wants. I do hope that in the following years then I can educate well the next generation, students, and contribute it to the whole society. I also can continue to learn, contribute myself and follow the professional teachers’ guideline in the future. Gradually, I can contribute it to the whole Taiwan education areas.
