This paper will investigate how to secure the E-Learning management system through the creation of an information security reference framework based on international best practices. After this framework had been created, a number of existing E-Learning management systems, like WebCT, Moodle and others, will also be studied to identify their information security capabilities. These systems will then be mapped to the created information security reference framework, to see how well they conform to the information security reference framework. The paper will then evaluate the information security capabilities of the selected systems, and suggest shortcomings, if so identified.
