Educational Leadership and Management: Teachers Expectation Towards School Principal

Education is the core necessity in building human capital. Achieving this goal need systematic planning and monitoring from every aspects of the educational system. One of the most important aspect is good leadership and management in the educational organization. Principal as the leader and manager of the school or educational institution plays a vital role in fulfilling the nation’s vision and goal. The principal will lead the teachers towards the right and specific approach in achieving the target goal. This research will highlight the teachers perception towards their principal’s leadership and management and what are the qualities of a good leadership in educational management. The design of the research is case study in one of the school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The sample of the study involve 155 teachers. The findings revealed that the teachers were satisfied with the leadership style of their principal. The principal practiced a highly initiating structure and consideration manner that suit the environment of the school. Findings showed the mean for initiating structure is 3.75 and the mean for consideration manner is 3.93. Both mean were at the high level for each aspect. This fit the Behavior Theory (Haplin: Research at Ohio State University). The implication of the study will be discussed in the paper.
