This paper will describe the experiences of a team of interdisciplinary faculty in launching college wide student e-portfolios. Faculty from the following departments was represented in the team:

Construction Science Technology, Architectural Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, Electrical and computer Engineering Technology, Information Technology and Humanities, Media and Cultural Studies. The team researched different types of e-portfolios currently in use, studied the relevance of e-portfolios in technical education and evaluated different technological solutions available for e-portfolio implementation.

During the initial stages of this project, the team developed an in-house template for e-portfolio. It gave faculty and the students who participated in the pilot, an opportunity learn about different aspect of e-portfolio development without purchasing expensive e-portfolio solutions from software vendors.

In the next stage, the team evaluated the software solutions from vendors such as Blackboard, WebCT and LiveText. After two years efforts including assessment of different software and pilot implementations the college started to require implementation of e-portfolio for all the freshmen starting in September 2007.

This presentation will give the audience a wealth of practical knowledge gained from the e-portfolio
